Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a wonderful uniform set, once belonging to a Junior officer in the US Army during the Spanish American War era. The uniform was originally designated an undress uniform and was re-designated in 1903 as a dress uniform. Like all dress uniforms, it was removed from wear in 1917 following the entry of the US into the first world war.
Throughout the post Civil War period a number of subtle style changes were made to the uniform. The sack coat lost its piping; the button pattern changed in 1885; pockets were added in 1887 and removed again in 1892. By the Apache campaign of the 1880s the Army had become far stricter in requiring that the proper uniforms be worn in the field. The Model 1892 was introduced and had a rather short life, soon being replaced by the Model 1895. There is photographic evidence of the 1892 still being worn when the new uniform was implemented, though the already existing 1892s were modified by to have the same appearance of the 95s. This one is still in original configuration which in itself is rather hard to comes across.
The uniform itself is in wonderful condition and shows no signs of any extensive damage to either the tunic or the trousers. There are however signs of faithful wear without any abuse. All toggles appear to be present but the uniform is missing one of the front breast buttons. The trousers do have slight fading and staining as well as age toning present on the white stripe going down each side.
A lovely uniform ready for further research and display.
